Speech From The Throne

So there's a back door to the legislature. Who would have thought? With the Lieutenant Governor ready to enter through the Hollis Street entrance to read the Speech From the Throne, MLAs were today ushered through a seldom used back door to reach the legislature…

Seems every day I sit in the House of Assembly I learn something about the history of this building. A few weeks ago I was with a group of grade 5 students at the legislature and learned not only about many historical aspects of the legislature (did you know Nova Scotia used to have an upper chamber which voted itself out of existence?) but also about the interest many young people have in the legislative system. It gives me some hope in this time of public uncertainty over politics.

Today is about ceremony. The days and weeks ahead will no doubt be challenging. The work of this session of the legislature is just beginning. It will be a wild ride.
